Die Geschichte des Philo-Verlages ist ein Spiegelbild deutsch-jüdischer Geschichte in der Weimarer Republik und in den ersten Jahren unter nationalsozialistischer Diktatur. Der Centralverein deutscher Staatsbürger jüdischen Glaubens, gegründet 1893 als Abwehrverein gegen Antisemitismus, schuf sich mit dem Philo-Verlag ein publizistisches Instrument für seine Arbeit.
