This book synthesizes research conducted by the Global Change and Terrestrial Ecosystems (GCTE) Core Project, part of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme. It focuses on five major thematic areas: ecosystem physiology, ecosystem structure and composition, terrestrial production systems, global biogeochemistry, and ecological complexity (biodiversity). The book discusses the integrated and interactive effects of global change on the terrestrial biosphere, highlights key regional studies, and projects future trends in the global carbon cycle.
