Contemporary half leather, with cornerpieces; spines gilt; covers decorated paper; marbled endpapers (tops and feet spines partly damaged; hinges with tears but still holding strong; upper margin frontcover vol. 1 damaged)). Titles printed in red and black, with title-vignettes (printer's mark of Desrosier). (iv),(xx),670, (ii) and (xx),268,404 pp. With frontispiece-portrait of Allier engraved by Dupont and plate with annotated music "Chansons Bourbonnaises" and 7 other plates in text (facs. of XVIth cent. ms. with each 2 full length portraits). With decorated initials, head- and tailpieces, some very large with nice scenery around, and with 29 other illustrations (12 coats of arms, 2 seals, 3 coins, inhabitants, etc.) partly signed by E. Sagot. - The work is divided in 5 parts. Subtitles printed in red. - Vol. I (1833): 1) Histoire du Bourbonnais (110 pp.), 2) Les Sires de Bourbon (p. 111-40=20.), 3) Les Ducs de Bourbon (p. 421-670); Vol. II (1837): 4) Les Ducs de Bourbon (suite) (284 pp.), 5) Voyage pittoresque. At the end: L. Batissier, 'Excursion Marche et Berry'. (404 pp.). - Lightbrown spots throughout (most seriously to the titles and 1 plate ("Chansons")), some quires discolored. - With engraved ex-libris, pasted in on first endpapers of the 2 vols.: "Bibliotheca Lindesiana" (Library of J. L. Lindsay, earl of Crawford). - Rare, interesting, set of the first edition, alas the Atlas (1838) with lithographs missing.
