Baer Cornet (1937) is first and foremost a typographic designer. He arranges letters and words, moving them on the paper to where they can best be read while creating the right proportions. His extensive oeuvre, for clients including Rosbeek, Lecturis and Océ, shows a preference for the square format, with many greys and blacks and small type, often sans serif and set in small groups. His work therefore has a modest character ('more has been left out than added') and, according to Wim Crouwel, stands out as 'a breath of fresh air at a time when the opposite is all the rage'.
