Dutch monograph on the history and development of atomic and nuclear theory. The first part surveys the evolution of atomistic thought, from the pre-Socratic philosophers (Parmenides, Empedocles, Leucippus, Democritus) through Dalton, Avogadro, and Maxwell, to the kinetic theory of gases. Later chapters cover the development of modern atomic physics and nuclear phenomena. Includes a substantial bibliography and detailed index. Written while the author was professor at the University of Indonesia, Surabaya.
