Prostant Venetiis Apud Simonem Occhi, Romae [ Rome ], 1754
23.5 × 17.5 cm. Full vellum with gilt title to spine. Engraved papal coat of arms on title page, xxxvi, 360 pages. Printed in Latin throughout. Comprises three moral-theological dissertations against theatrical spectacles, arguing their incompatibility with Christian (especially clerical) life. A significant work in 18th-century ecclesiastical moral theology, especially in the context of Catholic censorship of public entertainment. Slight wear to vellum, endpapers show moisture staining and creases; the main text is clean and well-preserved with only minor stains/foxing in some places. This is the second, revised edition.
