Large 8vo (26,5x18 cm). Contemporary red morocco, covers and spine with finely gilt decorations 'à la style rocaille' with cross on both sides and "Souvenir de la Première Messe 24 Decembre 1843". Gilt dentelle inside, decorated endpapers (discolored), edges gilt. Halftitle, lithographed title in yellow and brown, 538 pp including printed title with title-vignette. with engraved folding map by B. Wohlmuth "La Palestine. Rectifié sur les lévis faits dans le Pays sous le Général Bonaparte par Soulavie le Jne" with nice inset of plan of Jerusalem. And with 25 lithographs by Manche after famous paintings (Title announced 40 plates, but each copy has a different number of plates). Printed on thin paper. - Nice spotless copy (convent-stamp on verso title) in a special festive and unique binding in perfect condition. The beautiful morocco binding shows the habit of Roman Catholics to give a book at the occasion of the celebration of the first mass of a beginning priest.
